Contentment

Someone a while back asked me the question, how would you paint a picture of contentment? Well here is what I came up with the image is called "Dreamers".  It shows a grandmother and a granddaughter dreaming together under a warm blanket. I think this acrylic piece says all there is to say about true contentment.

Wicked Wort Joins The Club

The Wicked Wort Brewery in downtown Robbinsdale officially joined the legendary bar club with the hanging of the "Welcome To Birdtown" artwork this past week. What a fun piece to paint. This piece has a lot of stuff going on in the art that will be sure to have anyone that views it have another look. The Wort is such a fun place to socialize with friends, good beer and good food to boot just a great place.

This was a recent commission work of boats moored at harbor in the morning mist. I always enjoy a graphite departure from paint. Three different pencils were used in this 11x14"  image and my goal was to capture the mood while highlighting the "LOVE" sign on the building to the left. fun piece to do and a nice change of pace I do not get a chance to draw many boats especial cool sailboats.

A Fortune of Patience

This 30"x 46" acrylic painting represents a lot of different emotions in a visual. In choosing a background  I tried to make it obvious that it is fall because of the yellow color of the corn husks waiting to be harvested. I also wanted to leave it to the viewer to decide judging by the sun is it early morning or late in the day almost dusk but not quite. Then finally, two different hands one young one old holding the same fortune cookie wisdom quote, "Be patient good things come to those who wait." This will be part of the farm series of pieces for those looking for prints.

The Letter

I have been wanting to do a piece with some dramatic natural lighting and this study was a fun one to do. I used a variety of materials for the subject matter references and the process gave me some new ideas for composition using light and shadows in another piece I am working on.

Walking With You

This new acrylic piece combines typography into the painting. I tried to make the type blend into the background enough so it is not a dominant feature but still a very relevant piece of the whole.  The original piece measures 28"x38" and prints will be available soon. I would like to do a series of these with embedded type.

Leaving Home

This acrylic painting explores shadows and light. Is it morning or evening and where is this young women leaving for at this time of day.  This acrylic painting measures 30 x 40" and will be available soon on the new website.

Summer Hawkeye

This piece was a good way to say goodbye to summer for me. You can almost smell the flowers and clover in the painting. There is nothing like a summer day in an open field in the midwest watching all the things going on around you. This is an acrylic painting measuring 28"x36". Prints of this will soon be available on my new website coming soon.

Golf Benefit and Auction

This painting was auctioned at a golf tournament for a great cause. I really enjoyed all the family involvement  in this cause and it was a truly fun painting to concept and complete.

Shock Top

A shock of blond hair blowing in the breeze while in a midwest cornfield. I had this painting in my studio as an unfinished acrylic since last summer. It reminds me of the hot summer days spent in a cornfield detasseling corn by hand. They have machines for the most part now but it was a great way to spend a summer day in the sun. This acrylic measures 27" x  39"  prints will be available soon.

Harley Patch

There is nothing like your favorite pair of old jeans. The ones that maybe just past their prime but they are  unique as the person wearing them. This 28" x 30" acrylic will be available soon as a print.

Jazz

This is my latest  attempt at abstract painting.  I really enjoy creating these but I have to fight the urge all the way through the process of wanting to define edges and objects. This acrylic measures 14 x 18" on stretched canvas over a 2x2 wood frame. If interested in the original of this piece email me at steve@berger fine arts.com. and let me know.

Flying South

Just returned from the boundary waters and was inspired by all the wildlife and was anxious to start painting when I got back to the studio. This art started out as just the three geese heading south but it did not seem complete until I added the satchels. I think it makes the composition much more interesting and fun. Signed prints are now available of this piece.

Lake Reflections

This new acrylic painting  measures 3'x5' and features reflections at the lake.  I like the feeling that surrounds this image and it reminds me of how water seems to have the ability to recharge and help us to reflect on what's important. 16 x 20"  Prints of this image will be available soon.

New Book Of Art and Poems

I finally published a collection of my work this year. This soft bound book features close to sixty original pieces with an attached poem created specifically for each piece shown. This was a lot of fun to put together and I like the final result and judging by the responses I have received the first print run has garnered a lot of positive response.

Framed Poster

As I have posted before I really like to see where my prints end up after they are purchased. I enjoy seeing how they are framed and hung in a home.  If you purchase a print please feel free to share and show how it decorates your home. Keep your pictures coming and I will share them here on my blog. steve@bergerfinearts.com

Coaching Wisdom

This 24"x 20" acrylic had been in my studio for some time as a sketch and I liked the idea but I  just need to get it on canvas. Finally it's done. There is something about a coach and his interaction with players especially young ones like shown in this art.. This scene will be played out later on this summer in the hottest days connected to August. I do love football and look forward to September when it all begins anew.

Painting In Place

When a piece of art leaves my hands some customers will email me and show me how they placed it and what it looks like in their home. Nothing makes me happier then seeing how my art is placed once purchased like the painting shown here.  Sized and placed on a wall with the correct lighting for dramatic effect the right art can be so effective in communicating feelings about what you enjoy or are passionate about. Please feel free to share with me it makes my day. This image is available of course for prints if you are interested. Email steve@bergerfinearts.com for specifics.

Small Watercolors

I have a lot of these small watercolor paintings that I do just for fun. I enjoy watercolor because they are quick and unforgiving, no do overs with watercolors. I am starting another Sketchbook that will be full of these small images that have ideas buried within them for maybe a serious acrylic painting or maybe just a funny card. For a side note the raccoon painting is titled "no-one will believe you"

Maybe

Spring has finally come to the north country and things begin to change quickly. This 28"x 36" acrylic painting is celebrating that. A young girl holding a young frog deciding on a kiss to break a wicked spell. Maybe it's a dare, or just maybe it's just for fun? Prints of this are now available. Can't wait for summer.

This 18"x22" acrylic painting has been in the works for awhile which means it has been in my studio waiting to get finished since last year. It's a boundary waters story that features a young woman enjoying the sights and cooling her feet after a day of hiking. I had to stop myself from putting something else in this painting but because it is one of the smaller images I have done in recent years I decided it has enough going on. Keep it simple please. Prints of this image are now available.

Connected

This 20 x 28" acrylic painting shows a young man under high voltage wires that seem to be connecting to him. He is connected to  his music but most importantly to his surroundings. He knows where he is going.  Fun painting to do and prints of this art are now available.

Summer of '73

This image measures 26 x38 and highlights a summer day in the midwest with absolutely nothing to do but soak up sun and relax out on a gravel road in the middle of nowhere. A lot of memories are tied up in this image. Prints are now available of this image.

The Band

This is color cartoon done with a brush and watercolors. It  features a band with two pigs and a farmer having a sudden realization. This cartoon probably sums up my humor in one visual. A cartoon using ink and brush is becoming a lost form of art. The art tablets are really taking over but I will stay old school, I have tried other ways to produce them electronically but it just is not the same for me.

Winter

It was brought to my attention recently that they had no idea that I was a published cartoonist. Cartoons have  always been a fun way to help convey ideas and opposing views in an entertaining visual.  I have done a lot of them over the years for advertising clients, magazines as well as personal cards. I still really enjoy producing them, I enjoy the thinking process behind them. This one shown is all bout living in Minnesota.

Sweet Corn

If you have ever been in a cornfield in late August you will understand this 28"x32" acrylic painting. The smells, heat and feeling of the sun coming down from above makes summer what it is. Prints are now available for this image.

Agate Hunting

There are quite a few people who visit the Lake Superior shoreline to search for desirable agates. Some get polished some get thrown in jars and some just get put on a shelf. I think all avid hunters agree that looking for just the right size, color and shape is all the fun. This 16 x 20 acrylic painting has something a little different going on. Prints are now available. Can't wait for summer.

Welcome to Birdtown

If you have been at Robbinsdale Minnesota Whiz Bang Day festival and enjoyed all the events that go along with it this art is for you. This 36"x30" acrylic painting highlights all the characters you might meet at the event. Just a fun painting to do and it is part of the legendary print series. Prints of this work are available upon request.

Montana Morning 1876

This is a small 12"x12" acrylic painting I have been messing around with for a couple of months and I thought I would share it here. I intend to use this piece as reference for a much larger painting that will be part of a series of western images. I intend to be in Montana this summer so hopefully I will be able to get some ideas for more art that will include horses and everyday ranch scenes.
