This past weekend Victory Memorial Drive was rededicated to showcase the beautiful improvements done to the monument at the end of the drive as well as the parkway leading up to it. It is quite a view from the monument looking up the drive through a canopy of trees.This acrylic on canvas painting is a view of the stone slab that forms the base of the flagpole at the monuments steps. I wanted to get some emotion out of the granite surface, to show that it represents more than letters etched in stone. The faded reflective image at the base I thought would help visualize the cost of war.
